Frequently asked questions
Licensing & buying
One-time pricing: Client edition ₹5,000 and Firm edition ₹10,000. There are no monthly fees, no subscriptions and no per-asset charges.
The licence is per edition. The Client edition is for one business / one client file. The Firm edition is for the practice managing many clients.
No. It's a one-time purchase for the version line. Rebuilding or upgrading to a new major version would be a separate purchase.
Yes — download the executable and run it. Open the built-in sample file, add a few assets and export a report before you buy.
Installation & setup
No. The executables are self-contained, so the .NET runtime ships inside the file. Nothing to install on the target PC.
Yes. Just FAR is fully offline-first. No internet, no cloud account, no telemetry.
The executables are not yet code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen flags them as unknown publishers. This is normal for new, self-contained software. Click More info → Run anyway.
Run
register-fardb.ps1 -ExePath "C:\Path\To\JustFAR.exe" once per machine. Then double-clicking a .fardb opens it in Just FAR. You can also right-click a file → Open With → JustFAR.exe.Only for the first-time system-wide file association (and any hard install). Portable use from a folder works without admin.
Working with data
In the
.fardb file. That's the entire register — profile, assets, audit log, branding. Keep it safe, back it up, and it travels anywhere.Comfortable up to about 20,000 assets per file; it handles 50,000. Files are small (a 50,000-asset register is ~13 MB) and compress well for email.
No — one computer at a time per
.fardb. The Firm edition can read a file even while a Client session has it open. We'd avoid it. Sync tools can lock the file while it's open and cause conflicts. Work on a local copy, then copy back or use a network share.
Use Assets ▸ Import Excel. Map your columns (most standard Indian FAR headers are auto-detected), check the preview, and import. Use the built-in Template for a clean start.
Depreciation & correctness
Day-wise pro-rata: only the portion of the financial year the asset held is depreciated. Same for additions and disposal years.
Yes — that's mid-life adoption. Enter the opening WDV and accumulated depreciation as on a date (normally 31 March or 1 April). Keep the original put-to-use date.
It floors both methods — the asset is never depreciated below its salvage value. Enter it as a % of gross cost and Just FAR computes the amount.
No. The engine is per-asset Useful Life (SLM) or Depreciation % (WDV) only, per the current requirement.
Reports & troubleshooting
Check the financial year in the title bar — reports are always for that year. Then spot-check a few assets on the dashboard. If a file was created by an older version, open it once in the Client edition first so the schema upgrades.
Open that client file once in the Client edition so its schema is brought up to date, then re-scan the folder.
File ▸ Audit Log inside a client file. Every add, edit, delete and disposal is logged with the user and timestamp.
Close other copies of the file, use 8 GB RAM for very large registers (50k+), and keep the
.fardb on the local disk.App version (Help ▸ About), the client file path (title bar / File ▸ Open folder), and the error detail from
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Just FAR\crash.log.Still stuck?
